Highland Drama Club Presents A December Performance

The Highland Drama Club has an upcoming performance, and we spoke with some of the participants to learn more about it, as well as why they enjoy being in the club.

First, we heard from “Mackensi Lambert”, who told us about the production.

“It is called Snow Child and it’s adapted from the Russian folk tale Snow Child by Jody Davidson. It will be held Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria.”

“My part in the play is the Snow Child. I am the daughter of Katya and Dimitri, the toy maker, and I was brought to life by a magical fairy creature named Babushka as their New Year’s wish. And then I come to life and they have a child now.”

“I like being in drama club because I can express myself more and not get made fun of.”

Next: “Well, my name is Mary Anne Rogers. I Play Katya, she’s the mom. And….yep.”

And that’s all you’re going to say about her?

“Well, I don’t want to give too much away, you know –  I’m the mom. You’ll see if you come on the 21st.”

“I love drama. I love acting. I love doing all that stuff. It’s just like, it gives you a chance to be a different person and experience life from, like, a different perspective, and I just always have a fun time with it.”

Her onstage spouse was equally circumspect about his role.

“Cash Chambers, Dimitri the toymaker. I am the… dad.”

And his brother’s part is….unique.

“My name is Holden Chambers. I play the lowly snowmen that’s in one scene. He’s just there – we’ll just say that. No, I just sit there. They could have put like a model of it up there, but it had to be live.”

Next up: My name is Eleanor White, I play Irena in Snow Child. She is one of the sisters to another character and she is very snobby and sassy.”

I asked her if that also applied to her outside of performance.

“I mean, kind of but not like, really, I don’t, I don’t know.”

“I just like acting in general.”

One of her onstage siblings is: ”Adelaide Baxter. My character’s name is Sonia, and she’s the sister of Irena. And she’s also kind of sassy and snobby. And Irena and Sonia both hate each other – little relatable.”

Wait, it’s relatable for your stage sister?

“No, only for my brother.”

Ah…and why do you like drama?

“It’s just fun. And I like the people who do it.”

“My name is Jack Herold.”

Can you be a little more excited to be talking to me, Jack?

“My name is Jack Herold! My character’s name is Pavel, and he is the older brother of Anushka. He is probably one of the most annoying characters in the entire play.”

And do the character’s annoying habits relatable to you?

“Absolutely.”

Jack’s drama enjoyment?

“Just getting the opportunity to act.”

The next actress, and why she enjoys performing:

“Ellie Lambert – I’m Masha. Because it’s fun – because you get to pretend to be someone else.”

And the last actress I spoke with:

“Savannah Cabral. I play Anushka. I’m the child in the village and I’m also Pavel’s younger sister.”

She likes drama because – “It’s fun, and I get a memorize more things.”

She also had some special acknowledgements.

“We would also like to give thanks to: The Crew – Charlotte Richardson. Emily Cabral, Aletheia Robertson; Hair and Makeup – Brooklyn Buzzard, Charlotte Richardson, Zeda Townsend; Music and sound – Orion Robertson; Special thanks to parents, Jerry Moats, Tim Good and Nicole Cabral,  Ray Gum, Vernon Simmons, Scott Smith and WVLS, Mary Beth Gutshall, Tammy Minnigh.”
