Highland Schools Offer Credit Monitoring After Computer Breach

Highland County School officials are urging past students and those employed by the school system since 2008 to apply for free credit monitoring due to a computer breech.

PowerSchool, a cloud-based software provider used by Highland schools, reported the breech to its system on Dec. 27th. Days later, Highland school administrators were informed by PowerSchool that the breech resulted in data theft from its Student Information System, which involved students and faculty.

The personal information exposed included one or more of the following: a person’s name, contact information, Social Security Number, limited medical alert information and more.

PowerSchool has sent emails to contactable victims, offering free credit monitoring and personal identification protections through Experian for two years. All other victims should visit the PowerSchool site at https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/ and follow the instructions.
