Highland Students Tell the Greatness of the Snow Day

Monday was the first snow day for Highland County Public Schools. Kids took to the hills around town and enjoyed time with friends and family as they sledded, had snowball fights, and slid across parking lots ice skate style.

I caught up with a few children around town and they shared their favorite part of a snow day with me.

Here’s Ava Frayer, an eight year old from Monterey: “I like making snow cones with the snow, and I like putting blueberries on top, and I like to put maple syrup. It’s delicious.”

Anna Chambers, a Freshman at Highland High School, loves the sights and calming feeling that comes with snow: “My favorite part of a snow day is how pretty everything outside looks after a fresh coat of snow.”

Jisoo Han, a Highland High School Junior, took this time away from school to learn something new: “My favorite part of a snow day is just playing in the snow in general and I just tried skiing for the first time today and it was surprisingly not that hard. I fell about three times or so, but it was okay. I stood back up.”

Holden Chambers, a Freshman at Highland High School, also shared a favorite food for the snowy season: “My favorite part of snow days is the snow ice cream, which is a family thing that we do a lot. It has a lot of sugar, milk, vanilla, and I believe that’s it. It’s very delicious, and I love it!”

Jaxson Will, an almost 10-year old from the southern part of Highland, summed up most everyone’s thoughts in two words: “No school.”

With such a short answer, I did ask for some clarification. Do you like a virtual school day or a no school day? “No school.”

It’s so wonderful to see kids of all ages out and about and celebrating a good snowfall. Hopefully you had fun in the snow as well!
