Highlands Community Orchestra Performs Spring Concert to Packed Crowd

On Sunday April 28, the Highlands Community Orchestra, composed of musicians from Highland, Bath, Pendelton, and Pocahontas Counties performed their spring concert at The Highland Center. The concert was dedicated to the memory of Dawn Field and The Dawn Field Memorial Fund. Gretta Sandberg is the director of the orchestra.

 

“So I wanted to start this orchestra and have people from all over who used to play and miss playing, be a part of it. We keep expanding and I keep getting emails from those who want to play,” said Sandberg.

 

The group played selections from Bach, Sheldon, Strauss, and Debussy finishing off with a rousing Can Can from Offenbach’s famous operetta Orpheus in the Underworld. Let’s listen in:

Orchestra rehearsals are on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in The Highland Center in Monterey, and anyone who can read music on a grade three level is welcome to participate. There will be several additional concerts throughout 2024, culminating in a orchestra and choral Christmas concert in December. For more information, email grettasandberg@gmail.com.
