Lady Warriors Soccer Team Shuts Out Rival Greenbrier East

Lewisburg, WV – The PCHS Girls Soccer Team traveled to Lewisburg Tuesday night to face their bigger school rivals, the Lady Spartans of Greenbrier East. It has been quite awhile since the PCHS Girls have beaten Class Triple A East, but the Lady Warriors came home last night with their first shutout of the season, a coveted 1-0 victory. Last year the PCHS Varsity and Junior Varsity squads both lost 2-1 heartbreakers at home to East. Last night East shutout the young PCHS JV squad 4-0.

The entire PCHS defense, led by junior goalie Sarah Jonese, is to be commended in their total team effort against a 32 member East squad. Senior all-stater Morgan Williamson provided the offensive punch with a break-away goal with about twenty minutes to go in what had been a scoreless defensive battle. PCHS out shot East approximately 8-4.

The Lady Warriors held their #6 state ranking this week, while #1 Sissonville lost their first match to Winfield and dropped to #3. Defending state champion the last two seasons, Charleston Catholic, jumped one notch to #1, and the Lady Warriors will face Catholic in Charleston on Saturday at 1 PM. The Lady Warriors have or will face the top five teams in the current ranking.

Both the PCHS Girls and Boys Varsity teams have home matches at PCHS Thursday night, when Petersburg comes to town for 5 and 7 PM match-ups.

Congratulations are in order for first year coaches Kathy and Steve White for a rare victory at East.
