Martha Giddings Chosen To Fill Unexpired Pocahontas Board Of Education Position
Marlinton, Wv – Martha Giddings was chosen by the Pocahontas County Board of Education at a special meeting of the board Monday night. Board President Kenneth Vance explains their thought process in selecting Giddings.
“We have had 7 people say they were interested in filling Leslie’s position,” says Vance. “Four of those people were members that have filed for the Board of Education seats, and we felt that we couldn’t select one of them over the other. So we went onto the other candidates and we have selected Martha Giddings to fill Leslie’s unexpired term.”
Those who expressed interest in the unexpired term are Cheryl Beverage, Roger Irvine, Lynn Jordan, Randy D. Sharp, David Mortenson, Mark Strauss and Martha Giddings. Beverage, Irvine, Jordan and Sharp have all filed to run for the Board of Education seats.
When asked if the Board had considered seeking any public comment on the appointment Board President Vance said no, they were just going to appoint someone. Two board members did express appreciation for the question being raised.
On the personnel agenda, the board approved the following:
Medical leave of absence for Melvin Lindsey
Permission for Superintendent CC Lester to employ teachers of homebound/hospitalized students as deemed necessary for the remainder of the school year
Abolishment of the position of Coordinator of Food Services/Students services
And creation of the position of Coordinator of Food Services/Technology specialist
