Meet Bath County’s New Librarian: Rachael Hughes

The Bath County Public Library has welcomed Rachael Hughes as its new librarian. She’s only been in the role a few months, but her connection to reading started long before this job. As Rachael put it, she “read before [she] could read,” and that early love of books has stayed with her ever since.

With a background in English literature, creative writing, and years of experience working with children, Rachael has returned to what she calls her dream job. In our conversation, she reflects on those first weeks getting settled, the balance between teaching and librarianship, and her hopes for making the library a welcoming place for both kids and adults.

Thanks to Rachael Hughes and the Bath County Public Library for their time.
