Missing Duo Located Safely

The search for a missing mother and daughter who had last been seen in Monterey on July 9th came to a happy ending Thursday afternoon.

Highland County Sheriff Ronald Wimer announced that Martha and Mary Bates had been found safe on National Forest land in Highland County. The duo had been travelling to Camp Carlo in West Virginia, and according to details Sheriff Wimer provided later in the evening, had apparently taken a wrong turn in their journey. Their vehicle had become stuck, and they had remained with it until 11:00 am Thursday morning, when they began walking on foot, and were found by members of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management who were involved with the search.

They were located on Middle Mountain Trail, near Knotmaul Run and Christian Run. Both were in good physical condition, and did not require medical attention.
