Monterey Town Council’s August Meeting
The Monterey Town Council held it’s monthly meeting on August 4.
It was reported that the Planning Commission voted to approve the updated County Comprehensive Plan and to pass it on for a public hearing with both the town and the county. County Attorney Melissa Dowd explained that the new County Comprehensive Plan contains updated goals and information, but not a lot of substantial changes. She said the Town Council can hold a joint public hearing with the Board of Supervisors, but she was not sure when the county would set the public hearing.
During public comment, Janice Warner of Monterey expressed concern about the Mill Alley roadway. She said there has been a lot of erosion and some of the road, which had been previously repaired, is gone. She also said there is a tree hanging over the road that needs to trimmed. Mayor Ronald Wimer said that he and Town Employee Mike Isles have looked at Mill Alley and are discussing it. County Attorney Melissa Dowd suggested maybe considering a “No Thru Traffic” sign for Mill Alley to cut down on traffic and the wear and tear on the road.
Mayor Wimer also said he has heard from residents concerning sidewalk repair that is needed on the side street across from The Curly Maple. He said he plans to talk with VDOT about it.
The Town Council will not meet on the first Thursday next month. Instead, the September meeting was set for Thursday, September 8, at 7pm at the Town Office. There may not be a virtual attendance option available for that meeting.
