Navy Knighthawk Helicopter Crashes Near Pocahontas-Randolph County Line

Cass, WV – At approximately 3:30 pm Thursday, Feb 18th, a US Navy Knighthawk helicopter crashed in a remote area near the Pocahontas-Randolph County line in WV, north of Lewisburg. The helicopter, carrying 14 Navy and 3 Nat Guard personnel from Ft. Pickett near Blackstone Virginia, left earlier in the day on its way to Ft Dawson in Preston County. According to the Navy, the helicopter is assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Support Squadron 26 from Naval Station Norfolk. It was participating in Operation Southbound Trooper X at the time of the crash. Operation Southern Trooper is an annual Naval exercise.
