New Bath Assessment Notices Go Out Soon

Warm Springs, VA – In about a month Bath County property owners will get their reassessment notices in the mail. And Steven Wampler president of Wampler Eanes Appraisal Group doesn’t think these notices will bring big surprises like the ones did two years ago.

Bath County threw out a reassessment two years ago done by Blue Ridge Mass Appraisal which had some property values rising as much as 800%. Bath has to accept this reassessment because the county is required to do one every six years at the most and it’s reached that deadline.

Some property owners have expressed concern that Homestead Preserve values might inaccurately affect their own property values. But Wampler says the Homestead Preserve was looked at separately from other areas in the county.

This reassessment will go on the books effective January 1. Wampler Eanes has been working in Bath County for the past year and a half and has looked at about 5800 parcels of land.

Reassessment notices will be mailed by Friday October 22. Wampler Eanes will start their hearings on November 10. Bath County’s Board of Equalization hearings will begin around mid January.
