News Nugget – Highland School Board August Meeting

Thursday afternoon, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam issued a public health emergency order which mandated the wearing of masks in all public and private schools in Virginia for staff and students K-12.

At an emotional Highland School Board meeting that evening, the Board voted 2-1 to disregard that order, and allow parents to opt out for their children via a letter sent to parents. The Board also voted 2-1 to not accept the school administration’s proposed Equitable Access for All Students policy.

Stay tuned to AMR for full coverage of the entire meeting.
