No Kindergarten Class At Millboro Elementary School Next Year

Warm Springs, VA – Kindergarten will not be offered at Millboro Elementary school next year. At a budget work session on Thursday evening, the Bath School Board voted to move the Millboro kindergarten class and it’s teacher to Valley Elementary. The Millboro class has 8 students registered for next year while Valley has 24.

The school board also voted to reduce staffing and that reduction includes one teacher at Valley Elementary and one employee at Bath County High School.

In working on the budget, the board was considering lowering the salary increase for employees, but the board restored that 3% salary increase to the budget on Thursday evening. The board also restored the custodial beginning salary scale at $19,500.

On Thursday evening, the school board approved the 2011-12 budget as amended on a vote of 3 to 0. Board member Dreama Burns was absent and Board Member Joyce Hevener was unable to stay for the entire meeting.

The Bath School Board was faced with cutting money from it’s budget. The Bath Board of Supervisors appropriated about $386,000 less than what the school board requested in it’s original budget.

The school board also approved moving a special education teacher from Millboro Elementary to Valley Elementary for next year and the board accepted with regrets, the resignation of Chase Davidson, the Athletic Director and PE teacher at the high school.
