O’Cull Preps Pocahontas Board Of Education For New Superintendent Search

Marlinton, WV – Dr. Howard 0’Cull, Executive Director of the WV School Boards Association, is assisting the Pocahontas County Board of Education in their search for a new school Superintendent. Current Superintendent Dr. Patrick Law, leaves the county at the end of the school year to take over as Superintendent of Wood County schools.

O’Cull referred to a booklet he’d previously sent to the board members outlining the search process. He says it’s based largely on the one recently used in Wood County, with information from other counties as well. The deadline for applications is March 31st. He explains the process after the deadline.

“Once the deadline has approached, then we will get the copies of the applications that we have received out to you by overnight mail to each member of the board” says O’Cull.

He says the board will then review the applications and make their choices as to who to interview. O’Cull says the community will also be part of the interview process. A community forum was originally scheduled for April 17th at 9am. However board member Margaret Worth has a previously scheduled meeting on that date. It would also conflict with AMR’s live election forums with the board of education candidates. Instead, the forum will mostly likely be held sometime between April 13th and 15th, in the evening at PCHS.

O’Cull says they will ask community members to submit questions in advance and he will moderate the forum. O’Cull has asked the board members to narrow their choices down to the final three candidates by the April 12th board meeting.
