PCHS boys soccer team advances to regional

Summersville, W.Va. –

The Pocahontas Warriors boy soccer team defeated Nicholas County 7-0 Friday night in the sectional championship game at Nicholas County High School. Senior Tyler Davis scored four times against the Grizzlies. Sophomore Philip Green booted in two goals and junior James Coy dribbled halfway down the field and past the Nicholas goalie to score goal number seven in the rout. Coy, Phillip Whiteis, Stephen Simmons, Brandon Cassell and goalie Alex Kennison played excellent defense to secure the shutout.

The Warriors advance to the regional championship game for the first time since 2008 with the win. The PCHS boys will play the Bluefield Beavers Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Nicholas County football field in Summersville. The Beavers defeated PCHS twice this season, but the Warriors are peaking on offense and defense at just the right time. Over the last four games, the Warriors have scored just under eight goals per game and held all opponents scoreless.

As reported on Friday, the Lady Warriors have also advanced to the regional championship game. The PCHS girls defeated Midland Trail in the sectional championship game on Thursday. The Lady Warriors will play the Pikeview Panthers Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Summersville. Warriors fans will be able to enjoy a twin bill and send their teams off to the state final four with victories.
