Pocahontas BOE Meeting Agenda for the January 24th Meeting

The Pocahontas County Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 24th at the Green Bank Elementary/Middle School. At 3:45pm there will be a Local School Improvement Council meeting followed by the regular meeting at 5:00 pm. Here is the agenda for the regular meeting.

After normal opening procedures, the board will hear any delegations from the public, and then receive the Superintendent’s report and his special recognitions, which will include recognition of all 55 student winners who placed in first, second or third place at the County Science Fair in each category and for each school.

There will be informational reports from:

  1. Haley Spencer, the Student Representative to the board.
  2. Sherry Radcliff who will present an update about energy savings.
  3. And Ruth Bland who will address academic achievement as it relates to the Special Education Audit Review and the Preschool application process.

The board will then consider consent approval of routine financial matters, and will approve a change to the travel reimbursement rate from 62.5 cents per mile to 65.5 cents per mile.

They will consider approving three overnight and/or out-of-state travel requests.

The board will approve Green Bank Elementary/Middle School to add a Pepperoni Roll fundraiser to its list of approved fundraising events.

They will also consider adding Parent and Community Volunteers for the current school year.

They will discuss and take possible action on the posting of a position to provide daily security at PCHS and possibly other schools, and tol determine the authority to be given to that position.

The board will consider approval of the recommended list of personnel actions.

Lastly, the board will conduct a Matters of the Board discussion prior to adjourning the meeting.

Tim is the WVMR News Reporter. Tim is a native of Maryland who started coming to Pocahontas County in the 1970’s as a caver. He bought land on Droop Mountain off Jacox Road in 1976 and built a small house there in the early 80’s. While still working in Maryland, Tim spent much time at his place which is located on the Friars Hole Cave Preserve. Retiring in 2011 as a Lieutenant with the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland, Tim finally took the plunge and moved from Maryland to his real home on Droop Mountain. He began working as the Pocahontas County Reporter for Allegheny Mountain Radio in January of 2015.
