Pocahontas County 2013 payroll approaches $1.7 million

Citizens of Pocahontas County will pay their employees wages and salaries of nearly $1.7 million in 2013. Here is a breakout of county departments and their payroll – not including the cost of benefits.

The Sheriff’s Department, including law enforcement, jail and the tax office, is the most expensive county office, with 15 full-time employees and a total payroll of $468,114 – an average salary of $31,208.

911 Communications is the second-most expensive office, with 10 full-time employees and a payroll of $281,033 – an average salary of $28,100.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s office is the third-most expensive, with four full-time employees and a payroll of $187,557 – an average salary of $46,889.
The County Clerk’s Office is the fourth-most expensive department with five full-time employees and a total payroll of $163,140 – an average salary of $32,628.

The county commission, with three part-time commissioners and a full-time assistant is the fifth-most expensive office, with a payroll of $138,360 – an average salary of $34,590.

The Assessor’s Office is sixth-most expensive, with four full-time employees and a payroll of $125,190 – an average salary of $31,297.
The Circuit Clerk’s office is seventh-most expensive, with three full-time employees and a payroll of $89,460 – an average salary of $29,820.

One agriculture agent assistant, three courthouse maintenance personnel, two community corrections officials and one process server will receive total compensation of $185,239 – an average salary of $26,463.

The five highest-paid county employees for 2013 are as follows:

#1 – Prosecuting Attorney Eugene Simmons will be paid $92,200.

Tied for #2 – County Clerk Missy Bennett and Circuit Clerk Connie Carr will be paid $53,460.

Third highest paid employee is assistant prosecutor Ted White, with a salary of $50,000.

The fourth highest paid county employee is Emergency Management Director Shawn Dunbrack, with a salary of $49,000.

The fifth highest paid county employees are Sheriff David Jones and Assessor Thomas Lane, with salaries of $43,890. Both of these employees can receive additional compensation up to $15,000.
