Pocahontas County Spelling Bee Winners

Marlinton, WV – Twenty four students from Green Bank and Marlinton Middle schools met at MMS Thursday morning for the annual county spelling bee. The top three spellers in the fifth through eighth grades from both schools participated in the bee.

It took seven rounds of spelling to get down the winner Vincent Harper, an eighth grader at Marlinton Middle School. He says he spent a good two weeks preparing for the competition and will prepare for state competition.

Eddie Varner, a Green Bank sixth grader is the second place winner.

Third place winner Mikalan Holder, a 7th grader at Green Bank, is just glad the competition is over.

MMS teacher Ann Marie Thomas served as moderator, and Joanna Burt Kinderman and Beth Peterson were this years’ judges.
