2016 Election Results
Voters in Bath and Highland counties faced few choices on their ballots this year, as opposed to Pocahontas County. They followed the national results, preferring Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton, by 69% to 27% in both counties. Bob Goodlatte carried both counties in his victorious re-election bid to the U.S. House of Representatives, 6th District over Kai Degner, again with similar percentages, 76 to 23. Results also mirrored statewide results for constitutional amendments, with Question 1 regarding unions defeated, and Question 2 regarding taxation exemptions passing. In Monterey, Denise Simmons was elected to the Town Council via special election due to vacancy.
Here’s Tim Walker with results from Pocahontas County.
Here at Allegheny Mountain Radio, we will drill down and focus on the local vote results for Pocahontas County. While we will show results for National and State elections, remember, we will only show the results among Pocahontas voters for those state and national elections. We will show the unofficial results for all those local county elections. That said, here is what we know after all 15 Pocahontas County Precincts, all absentee ballots and all early voting ballots have been counted.
Again we remind you that these numbers only reflect votes cast in Pocahontas County and are unofficial pending the official canvass of the election results by the County commission at a Special Commission Meeting to be held at 8:30 a.m. on Monday November 14th at the Commission Office in the Courthouse in Marlinton.
