Pocahontas Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Raises Over $12,000 For The Hospital

Marlinton, WV – During the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital Board of Director’s annual meeting on Thursday, July 29th, the first order of business was to hear from Jean Weatherholt from the Hospital Auxiliary. She gave a rundown of materials purchased and donated to the Hospital over the past year, totaling over $12,000.00.

“In September we bought a pharmacy laptop [for] $700.00; in October we bought a dishwasher for the Dietary department that was over $9,000.00; we bought 24 chairs for the Dining Room was close to $1,000.00; we bought a computer for Medical Records that was over $700.00; then we went down and bought the Christmas ights for outside” says Weatherholt. “In January we bought a coffee pot dispenser and cup dispenser for Dietary [that] was over $100.00. So all together we provided $12,348.13 cents worth of equipment.”

Weatherholt says the Auxiliary also helped with the Health Fair and the Youth Health Fair and she says it’s time to start a new cycle of fund raising. She says that Pioneer Days was very good and that they netted $140.00 just in Badge sales. She says they need to do more because they already know what they’re going to do next.

“Our next project for the Hospital is buying new chairs for the patient rooms” she says. “We got a request from Gloria Russell when she was in Infection Control, and we went back and checked and some of the chairs do have cracks in them and it is and infection control issue. So what we need, she didn’t have any prices for us or what kind of chair they wanted, so they need to work on that and get us back a price and then need to work with Robbie to make sure they’re fireproofed. Then we’re ready to go on that project.”

Weatherholt says the biggest difficulty the Auxiliary has is how few members are actually available to do many of the things they try to do. Many of the members are Hospital Employees and those that aren’t are getting older and fewer and it’s becoming harder to accomplish as much as they once did. She says what they truly need is more people to come forward and volunteer with the Auxiliary.

In other action, Dr Must, Board President, reviewed the Annual Board Member Evaluations. These self generated evaluations are done by the Board and they gave themselves an overall Good Plus. Some areas noted as needing improvement include Marketing, Recruiting/Retention and relations between the Board and medical staff members.

The Board selected Officers for the upcoming year Dr Robert Must as President, Don McNeel as Vice President and Cathy Mosesso as Secretary/Treasurer. If you’d like to volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary contact Sara Casto at 304-799-7400 extension 222.
