Remembering the 1967 Copperheads

Marlinton, WV – The Pioneer Days supplement of The Pocahontas Times this month featured the 1967 Marlinton High School State Championship football team–a great look back into recent history as part of the tradition of Pioneer Days.

In November 1987, on the 20th anniversary of this great event in Pocahontas County sports history, Gibbs Kinderman and Bob Sheets recreated this historic game for radio. The two worked from a videotape of the game film provided by Marlinton Head Coach Elmer Friel. The Marlinton Copperheads defeated Wirt County 26-0.

As part of our Pioneer Days look back into history, Allegheny Mountain Radio repeated this special broadcast over Pioneer Days weekend and is now offering it here on the Web.
