Ryan Henderson New Face And Voice Of Sports At AMR

Dunmore, WV – Ryan Henderson, a recent graduate of Virginia Tech is the new face and voice of sports at Allegheny Mountain Radio. He gives us a little information about his background.

“I just turned 23 years old, recently graduated from Virginia Tech, majoring in communications” says Henderson. “One of the reasons why I majored in communications [is] because I worked at a radio station in Charlottesville in high school.”

He worked in an internship program and had a great time. He went to college with a clear career path in mind, but as often happens, plans changed along the way.

“I went to a big college because I wanted to do sports broadcasting, kinda changed my mind, ended up wanting to do sports information, and [now] have changed my mind since” says Henderson. “Now I currently rest at not knowing exactly what I want to do.”

What he did know is that after graduation he wanted to volunteer. And with his background in radio, AMR seemed a good place to start. He’ll be working closely with students and faculty at all three county high schools to develop sports programs with a Allegheny Mountain Radio connection. He’s already got a good start at Bath County High School with the Teen Frequency radio club, and plans to work with Highland and Pocahontas students beginning in August.

He says he’s pleasantly surprised to find himself back on the air.

“I never thought I get back into radio,” says Henderson “after I kinda gave up on wanting to do sports broadcasting, I had other interests, I figured I’d never do radio again.”

“But it’s worked out that there’s a position and I applied for it and got it. [I’m] definitely willing to work here for a year and see where it leads me after that.”
