It was announced at the February 6th Commission meeting that a letter had been received from Dominion declining to contribute to the Water Task Force’s water testing project.

Terrance Beam, Pocahontas County School Superintendent reported that he and Board Member Joe Walker met with Marlinton Mayor Sam Felton and they agreed that any plan to keep Marlinton Elementary School in Marlinton must be a community plan, not just a Board of Education plan.

The Coalition aims to collaborate with other school divisions to tackle issues of declining student enrollment, unfunded mandates, and other issues.

“And I think that’s what we have going for us, that we definitely can definitely focus on kids that are struggling to make them successful, not only here at the middle school, but at the high school as well” said Principal Lambert.

Citizens will help keep an eye on process

Today we will hear from Mrs. Rebecca Spencer, Principal of Hillsboro Elementary School talking about the Math and Reading (or English Language Arts) programs at the school as well as the community support for the school.

The new office will hold Third Thursday on February 15th
