Scholarships To Allegheny Echoes Writers Workshop Available
Hillsboro, WV – The Little Levels Heritage Fair will offer two Pearl S. Buck Student Writer’s Scholarships to the Allegheny Echoes Writers Workshop this summer. Thanks to a Michael C. Porter “Do Good Things” contribution, the scholarships will allow one college student and one high school junior or senior to attend the workshop, scheduled for June. The workshop will be led this year by Creative Writing instructor Kirk Judd. Laura Treacy Bentley, writer in residence for the Marshall University Writing Project will also join Kirk during the workshop.
The theme for the scholarship competition is Writing Home’ and all entries are to be in the form of a letter. The time frame of the letter is 1892 to 1972 to encompass the lifetime of Pearl S. Buck. You may write either as one from another country visiting the Little Levels area and writing to someone back home, or as someone from the Little Levels who is visiting another country such as China, and comparing life there with life in the Little Levels.
Entries should have only the first name on the front of the letter, but should include the following information on the lower right hand corner on the back of the letter:

Entries must be mailed prior to April 15th, 2011 and winners will be notified in early May. Winners will be invited to read their entry during the Pearl S. Buck Birthday Celebration on Saturday, June 25th in Hillsboro.
