Second Annual Arbogast Poker Run Is Saturday, August 20th

Monterey, VA – In August 2010, members of the Word of Faith Church in Monterey, VA held a Benefit Poker Run for Wayne and Mable Arbogast. Wayne was diagnosed with a rare form of Viral Encephalitis in January 2010, was hospitalized for an extended period of time and as a result of that received astronomical medical bills. The Poker Run was a great success and proceeds aided the Arbogast family. Wayne is doing much better health wise now.

This year, the group has planned another poker run to be held in Wayne Arbogast’s honor, scheduled for Saturday August 20th. Registration will be at 9 am at the Word of Faith Church and the bikes will leave at 10 am & return around 3:30 pm. Cost is 20.00 per hand and if a rider would like to play more than one hand they may. Mark Waybright is coordinating the event again and he is planning to make this an yearly event.

“We’re going to try to make this an annual event, this being the 2nd annual” says Waybright. “We’re going to designate the 3rd weekend in August every year to this poker run and the money that we are going to be raising every year will be going to help somebody in a crisis type situation or whatever the situation may be where people have substantial expenses that we can help them out with.”

Proceeds from the poker run will go to the Word of Faith Church Outreach Fund that helps people in need in the Highland community. Riders will enjoy a trip through the Allegheny Highlands and will be taking the same route as last year. The ride is approximately 140 miles.

“We left the Word of Faith Church at 10 am and rode to Marlinton, that was our first stop” says Waybright. “And then from Marlinton we went out to Mill Point and up on Kinnison Mountain and then took a right on Highway 150. We come off of Highway 150 and hit 219 and went to Snowshoe and then to Cass Railroad. And then the last stop was back at the church.”

A pork bar-be-que meal for the riders is planned following the ride at the church at 4 pm. This is prior to the pork bbq free will donation meal that is planned for the public later that evening. Waybright wants everyone to come out and enjoy the Poker Run.

“We think that you should just come out if you have a motorcycle and even if you don’t have a motorcycle you can come out to the poker run” he says. “You can drive your car through the route and collect your cards just the way that everyone else on the motorcycles do. It’s a fun filled day, we have great fellowship; it’s a great ride. And it’s just a blessing for you to be able to give money that you know it’s going to go to help your neighbor and you never know when that neighbor will be you.”
