Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative Awards Grants
According to a press release from Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative, the Cooperative’s charitable-giving program, Operation Round Up, has recently distributed nearly $30,000. The program is supporting fourteen area nonprofits and community-based efforts with the latest set of grants.
A selection committee, composed of co-op members and one employee, awarded $27,500 overall to the recipients. Funding for grants grows as co-op members voluntarily round up their electric bills each month and funding is also supplemented by a corporate contribution from Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors.
In Highland County, two organizations received grants.
The Highland County Humane Society received grant funding to assist local residents with vet care at local veterinary practices, and to provide dog and cat food for its pet food pantry program.
The Highland Children’s House received grant funding to support working families by providing quality, licensed, year-round, five-day-a-week educational childcare for the Highland County area.
Grants were also awarded to organizations in Augusta County, Frederick County and Winchester, Page County, Rockingham County and Shenandoah County.
The next set of Operation Round Up grants will be awarded in October.
