SHOW Workshop to Provide Support for Area Small Business on December 19

An opportunity for small business owners is coming to Monterey.

A USDA grant allowed Virginia Tech, in collaboration with Perdue University, to develop SHOW, the Small business Health and Organizational Wellbeing program. This unique opportunity allows the experts to come to us here in Highland.

SHOW is a free, employee-centric workshop for rural small businesses. The local workshop will be held December 19 at The Highland Center Gallery in two different time slots. Three focus areas will be shared: workplace communication, conflict resolution and employee wellbeing. Small business owners and employees will walk away from the workshop with skills and tools to improve employee wellbeing, reduce workplace conflict, increase productivity and quality of service, as well as ways to enhance their organization’s environment.

According to Marty Holliday, executive director of New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Development Area, we are in unprecedented times. Rural businesses face unique challenges, and rural communities lack access to development and training programs.

SHOW was designed to fill this gap.

For more information about the program as a whole, please visit aaec.vt.edu/show.

Registration must be completed by December 12. Area small businesses in Highland, Bath and Alleghany counties are welcome, and a minimum number of participants is required to hold the workshop.

For questions, or to register, call the VCE Highland Extension office at 540-468-2225.

Again, the December 19 training is free and will take about one-and-a-half to two hours to complete.
