#16 – Philly Cheese Steak

Philly Cheese Steak is classic. On one hand, nothing is going to beat enjoying one of these sandwiches at your favorite pizza or sub shop. However, it’s so easy to make, it’s seems silly to not try it out for yourself. We use this method of preparation a lot at my house when we have a lot of meat to use up of any sort – whether it’s turkey or chicken or deer. As far as beef goes, any thinner piece, cut into small strips or chunks will work – But if you are going for gold, your’re are going to want some shaved beef.

Ingredients – Serves 4

1 tbs butter

1 clove garlic, finely chopped or crushed

1 lbs shaved beef

1 cup of peppers sliced,

½ cup of onion sliced

2-3 tbs cream cheese

½ – 1 cup cheese of choice ( I personally like to use pepperjack, but provolone, swiss, and cheddar are all great options. Cheez Whiz is as real as it gets, though!)

Bread of choice

  1. Heat butter in a large skillet and cook the garlic, peppers, and onions until they are softened
  2. Add in the shaved beef and cook completely. Sometimes, it can help to chop the shaved beef into smaller pieces before cooking.
  3. Season with pepper to your taste (DO NOT season with salt til the end)
  4. Turning to low heat, slowly incorporate the cream cheese into your stirfry. Toss and mix until the stirfry has a nice creamy covering.
  5. Add your cheese of choice and mix until it is completely melted and covering the other ingredients. (At this point, if you still want to add salt, do so).
  6. Serve on it’s own or on the bread of your choice.
