#30 – Spiced Apple Cider
Fall is finally here, and that means the return of fall flavors. Today’s recipe for Spiced Apple Cider!
Ingredients
1 gallon Apple Cider – the fresher the better
Spices : Here are some suggestions! Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Clove are classics, but experiment with some of these other spices! Opt for whole spices over processed ones!
Cardamom, 5 pods crushed
Cinnamon Sticks, 2 sticks
Star Anise, 1-2
Nutmeg, shaved
Black Peppercorns, 1 table spoon
Cloves, 5-10
Ginger, fresh grated
Cayenne pepper, 1 pepper or 1-2 teaspoons of powder
Fruit : Optional, brings a bright note!
Cranberries – tart
Orange slice/Lemon Slices – sweet and citrus-y
Directions
- In a large pot, bring cider with chosen spices and fruit to a boil.
- Reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Strain and serve!
TIP* If you don’t want to struggle with hot liquid in a colander, tie up a pouch of cheese cloth around the spices – it will make clean up a breeze!
