#30 – Spiced Apple Cider

Fall is finally here, and that means the return of fall flavors. Today’s recipe for Spiced Apple Cider!

Ingredients

1 gallon Apple Cider – the fresher the better

Spices : Here are some suggestions! Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Clove are classics, but experiment with some of these other spices! Opt for whole spices over processed ones!

Cardamom, 5 pods crushed

Cinnamon Sticks, 2 sticks

Star Anise, 1-2

Nutmeg, shaved

Black Peppercorns, 1 table spoon

Cloves, 5-10

Ginger, fresh grated

Cayenne pepper, 1 pepper or 1-2 teaspoons of powder

Fruit : Optional, brings a bright note!

Cranberries – tart

Orange slice/Lemon Slices – sweet and citrus-y

Directions

  1. In a large pot, bring cider with chosen spices and fruit to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain and serve!

TIP* If you don’t want to struggle with hot liquid in a colander, tie up a pouch of cheese cloth around the spices – it will make clean up a breeze!
