The 53rd Highland Maple Festival Features Many New Vendors This Year

Monterey, VA – Highland County’s 53rd annual Maple Festival promises to be one of the best ever with new vendors, new food venues and plenty of entertainment. For over 10 years Highland Chamber of Commerce Director Carolyn Pohowsky has organized this event.

Pancake and buckwheat cake breakfasts will be served at five locations this year including the Stonewall Ruritan Club, Blue Grass Ruritan Club, Highland Elementary School, Bolar Ruritan Club, and the Bath/Highland Volunteer Fire Department in Williamsville. Several other food venues can be found throughout the county.

Featured entertainment this year at the Highland Center includes bluegrass band Southern Rail Express, the Little Switzerland Cloggers, the Hi Horse Cloggers, bluegrass band Harvest and the Kountry Kickers.

Heather is our Program Director and Traffic Manager. She started with Allegheny Mountain Radio as a volunteer deejay. She then joined the AMR staff in February of 2007. Heather grew up in the Richmond, Virginia, area and now lives in Arbovale, West Virginia with her husband Chuck. Heather is a wonderful flute player, and choir director for Arbovale UMC. You can hear Heather along with Chuck on Tuesday nights from 6 to 8pm as they host two hours of jazz on Something Different.
