The Art of Horsemanship: A Conversation with Tom Moates

I sat down with Tom Moates—award-winning author, journalist, and one of the most respected voices in modern horsemanship. With 14 books about horses and over 850 articles to his name, Tom has spent years learning from legendary horsemen like Harry Whitney and sharing those insights through his writing. We talked about his journey, the philosophy behind good horsemanship, and the challenges of communicating such an intuitive craft through words. He also shared his thoughts on the biggest misconceptions in training and what keeps him motivated after decades in the field.

Whether you’re a lifelong horse person or just curious about the deep connection between humans and horses, this conversation has something for you. Plus, Tom will be in our area on March 22nd and 23rd, and he’ll tell us more about that during the show.
