Virginia DGIF to Host Kids Fishing Day

McDowell, VA –
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is hosting a kids fishing day in Highland County, on Saturday, May 8 from 10AM to 2 PM.

These types of events are being held all across Virginia between April 3 and October 9, 2010. The Highland county fishing day is for children 15 years old and under.

The parking area at the swinging bridge is located about 13 miles south of McDowell on route 678. Children should bring their fishing tackle and bait.
Lunch will be provided by the Highland County Recreation commission starting at noon.

The river will be stocked with trout that morning. As an added bonus for adult anglers, the river will be stocked with more than the usual number of fish, so after 2 PM all anglers can try their luck fishing for these trout.

Door prizes will be given out at 1 PM. Funds to purchase these door prizes were provided by area Ruritan Clubs and other civic organizations.

This is a free event and the kids do not need fishing licenses due to their age.
