Winter and Spring CVB Events in Pocahontas County
To learn about upcoming tourism events in Pocahontas County, we met with Chelsea Faulknier, the Executive Director of the county’s Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“The Pocahontas County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, our Board of directors & staff, want to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving, and our tourism partners as well,” said Faulknier. “And hopefully all of those who will be out hunting this hunting season, wishing you a safe and successful next couple of weeks out in the woods. And we are certainly thankful here at the CVB for our incredible communities, our staff, our Board of directors, and our partners.”
“We are really looking forward to ski season coming up, of course we all know is a huge contributor to our local economy, not only impacting county-wide tourism, but really our county-wide industries and businesses as a whole. So, we are really manifesting some cold temperatures and flurries, and hoping to see them in our forecast for a successful ski season coming up at Snowshoe.”
“Snowshoe Mountain Resort is celebrating their 50th season on the mountain, so you can check out their website for exciting details on how they plan to celebrate the 50-year season anniversary all season long this year.”
“And, of course, upcoming holidays are just around the corner, ‘Local Saturday’ is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and Pocahontas County has really got a lot of unique local shops -boutiques, so we really working at the CVB to encourage not only our local residents, but visitors who are in the area or plan trips to the area, to shop local this holiday season and take home something unique from Pocahontas County.”
“We’ve got a lot of holiday events coming up this year, so we encourage everyone to check out our events calendar at: pocahontascountyWV.com. We’ll continue to update that with holiday events as we learn about those as we get into the full swing of the holiday season, and of course, with the Town of Marlinton Christmas Parade coming up on December 6th – that Friday from 5 to7, the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will hold their Open house. We encourage everyone to stop by and say hello and have a cup of hot chocolate and some cookies before the parade.”
“We also excited to announce the first annual Pocahontas County Restaurant week, taking place March 8th through March 15th, 2025. We will be celebrating our local dining establishments that utilize local producers and ingredients and produce products from here in Pocahontas County. And we’ll be working with local dining partners to promote their specials that week, in conjunction with, of course, the 2025 Mountain State Maple Days, which is coming up in February and March 2025. So, we’ll be releasing details on our website and social media about Restaurant Week and Maple Days as we get closer to those. We’ll (also) be announcing a really fun give-away in honor of the Restaurant Week and Maple Days, to encourage folks to signup and hopefully win a getaway to Pocahontas County, where they can have some lodging; they will have some customer itineraries for maple sugar camp tours; and some meals at local participating Restaurant Week dining establishments.”
“National Maple syrup Day is on December 17th (as well”)
“We also at the CVB are working with the Mon Forest Towns Partnership, who is working with West Virginia University Extension Service and the rural tourism group up there to encourage folks to take a residential survey. This is a chance for residents to express their concerns and their thoughts regarding tourism and the recreational development in the communities across the Mon Forest Partnership. Input from the residents from the survey is important because that will be used to inform future decision making and developmental planning for the partnership. So, if you are interested in taking that survey, you can find that on our website just by going to www.pocahontas countyWV.com, and there is a banner at the top of the page where you can click to take the survey. And we certainly appreciate everybody’s’ input and their taking the time to fill out that survey for us.”
Thank you, Chelsea. Remember if you have any questions about any of these upcoming events, you can call the CVB at 304-799-4636.
