Wintertide in Highland County is Saturday December 2nd

This is Chris Swecker, Executive Director of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce.  I’m excited today to talk to you about Wintertide, which is held annually on the first Saturday in December, and this year that is December 2nd.

At The Highland Center there is a Wintertide Vendor Market from 10am to 5pm, and that market is full of a variety of local crafters and most of them are from Highland County, but it’s a great place to go and get really unique gifts for your holiday shopping.  There will also be kids’ activities at The Highland Center while adults are out shopping for those gifts.  At The Highland Center between 11am and 3pm, Susanna’s Confections will also be open for tasty treats.  Children will get a free hot chocolate and cookie if you swing by there.  And of course, everyone’s favorite, a visit from Santa will take place from 11am to 1pm at The Highland Center.

New this year is the returning Highland County Christmas Parade.  We are super excited about this.  The Highland County Recreation Commission will be running the Highland County Christmas Parade with a route through downtown Monterey and that starts at 5:30pm.

There will be plenty of other opportunities for shopping and dining throughout the day during Wintertide.  For example, the Blue Grass Mercantile will have their Wintertide Shrimp Fest where they’ll have delicious steamed shrimp available all weekend, but especially there on Saturday, December 2.

The Charles Pinckney Jones House Museum is Highland County’s newest museum and it’s downstairs will be decorated for Christmas.

Heart and Soul Massage School in Monterey will be open for their annual Holiday Open House with specials on massage gift certificates and specials on their Rock Shop items.

The Highland Roots Market in Monterey is a place where you can stock up on gifts, produce and groceries at our newest back-to-basics food mart.

High’s Restaurant in Monterey will offer it’s surf & turf special this weekend, where you can get 16 oz. inch thick ribeye steak with their famous hand breaded shrimp and two sides and a scoop of your choice of ice cream from eight different flavors.  On sale for just $29.95.

The Monterey Inn in Monterey, one of our newest lodging facilities and restaurants, will have breakfast from 8am until 3pm and new, starting December 2nd, they’ll be adding dinners every Saturday from 5 to 9pm by reservation only.  You can call 540-495-0070 to reserve your space.  Plus, they’ll have a restaurant gift card for sale where you can buy a $50 gift card and get a $10 bonus gift card to the restaurant there at The Monterey Inn.

Sugar Tree Country Store is a unique country store with a great selection of gifts for all ages, including some new products, over in McDowell.  Check them out between 10am and 5pm.

Twice as Nice in Monterey is a family clothing thrift store that benefits the Highland Medical Center and you can get a special gift there.

You can get all the details on all the activities I’ve listed as part of Wintertide by going to www.highlandcounty.org or you can give us a call at the Chamber at 540-468-2550.
