Whether or not these MTA services will continue here and even expand in the future may very well depend on the decision by the County Commissioners to continue their funding for the MTA through the next fiscal year. The commissioners are scheduled to take this issue up at their April 20th meeting.

Cara Rose says adding a new statewide tax on tourists could hurt the tourism economy of the entire state and hit us particularly hard in Pocahontas County, since such a large part of our local economy depends on tourism dollars pouring into the county.
Pocahontas Commissioners to Start Procedures to Amend the Towing Ordinance

The proposed changes to the county Towing Ordinance would also permit Fire or EMS personnel, in addition to law enforcement officers, who are at the scene of a traffic accident where a vehicle needs an emergency tow to contact 911 Dispatch and request a tow truck be dispatched from the next tow company on the rotation. However, if the vehicle owner makes a request for a specific towing company, a law enforcement officer would still have to make the dispatch request.
