America’s first resort, the Homestead, founded in 1766, is up for sale. Parent company ClubCorp, based in Dallas, announced last week it had hired a financial consultant to explore options – including possible sale of the company. But Homestead employees were also notified last week that ClubCorp is on the market.

Attorney Martin Saffer, of Hillsboro, defeated County Commission President Joel Callison in the Democratic Primary Tuesday in Pocahontas County. Callison has served on the Commission for twelve years. He was seeking his third term. Saffer says he hopes the election symbolizes a referendum on the Snowshoe Sewer Project, particularly the potential use of eminent domain to obtain a site for the treatment plant.
